FAQs
How many trainings sessions will be necessary?
The number of necessary training sessions will depend on the sort of the complaints and the degree of imbalance of the brain. The average number of training sessions to lasting results is between 15 and 30.
How many times a week do I have to train neurofeedback?
You have to train at least two times a week. If you already had neurofeedback sessions before, you can train once a week, or sometimes once every two weeks.
Can the complaints come back?
Up until now, processed complaints disappear in general totally. But of course it is possible that a new stress situation or a new trauma activates new complaints.
Will my insurance reimburse neurofeedback?
There are several insurances who have neurofeedback in their insurance package. If you want more information about it, please call us.
Can my child stop or decrease his or her medications like Ritalin or Concerta during the training?
A neurofeedback trainer never will interfere with the medication. Nevertheless, when the training results are good and the complaints are decreasing, the trainer can advise to consult your doctor about the amount of medication. Sometimes the amount of medication can be reduced or even stopped.
Is it necessary to stop the medication during the neurofeedback sessions?
No, this is not necessary. A lot of medication (like anti-depressants) influence the functioning of the brain activities. Nevertheless, a lot of our clients noticed an amelioration of the brain activities or even disappearance of the complaints, while they didn’t stop using their medication. In consultation with their doctor, they diminished or even stopped their medication afterwards.
Is neurofeedback suitable for all ages?
Yes, it is: brains are very elastic and at any age they can make new paths. Last year we helped a boy of 6 years by training, but also a lady of 71 years.
Can I stay with my child?
Basically you can, but always in consultation with the neurofeedback trainer.
Can I get side effects from the training?
In general, the healing process of the brain during a neurofeedback training goes rather smoothly. But in some cases clients get some light physical or mental complaints. Normally the complaints disappear rather quickly. Anyway, you never should stop training at these moments. To the contrary, it indicates that your brains are looking to find a new balance. It is always important to tell the trainer about it. He or she can use your feedback to adapt, if necessary, the protocol.
What do I need to know about neurofeedback practices?
First of all, it is important that the neurofeedback trainer has finished a qualified course. And secondly you have to look if the trainer is registered at an overarching professional organization (like NFG or RBNG in Holland), who safeguards the quality guarantee. Some trainers don’t use an E.E.G.-device, which makes it impossible to get an overall image, nor makes it possible to benchmark.
We advise you to never buy and use an E.E.G.-device by yourself. Salesmen will tell you that it can’t harm you, but inadequate appliance will cause new imbalances in the brains, which ask for other protocols. Neurofeedback training really is a profession.
